Being in leadership is a blessing from the Lord, but with that blessing sometimes comes the extra weight of responsibility. Church leaders help lead others toward Christ so they also need prayer to stay on track, to not become discouraged, and to hear the Lord speaking. There is no greater gift you can give your pastor and the spiritual leaders of your church than to pray for them.
Pray That Church Leaders Clearly See God’s Direction
Isaiah 26:3—You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you. That is the clue any time we have no clue about our next steps. Proverbs 3:5-6—“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
Pray That Church Leaders Can Increase Their Focus
Matthew 6:33—But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Know that the deceiver will do anything he can to keep my pastor from study, prayer, and service. So, lift up my pastor up to You, dear Lord, asking You to help keep the main thing the main thing. Give “blinders” so that my pastor is keenly focused on You and on Your purpose for life and ministry this day. In Jesus’ name.
Pray That Church Leaders Will Beware Of Relying On Their Own Strength
A person who engages in self-congratulation over a supposed strength has lost the protection of humility and is vulnerable to Satan using that strength to produce his or her downfall. What Scripture talks about relying on God’s strength?”Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” The Good News: You don’t have to carry everything on your own. God will help you. “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.”
Pray That Church Leaders Will Have A Listening Heart
Lord, I pray for my pastor and church leaders in my church to persevere in the call they have received. May you carry out to completion the wonderful work you have called them to. In times when they grow weary, grant them the strength to continue on their journey with joy and gratitude. Pray they will be wise in leading God’s people.
Pray That Church Leaders Will Grieve The Spiritual Brokenness Of The People They Lead
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. James 4:8–9
Pray That Church Leaders Will Have Time Alone With God
Our church leaders need to be renewed for the work -just as Jesus did. God is all-wise and all-knowing. You can’t spend time alone with Him and remain ignorant. Acts 4:13 says that when the religious leaders saw the boldness of Peter and John and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled; and they realized that they had been with Jesus. You can’t spend time with the LORD and not be wiser than you are now.
Pray For Church Leaders To Walk In Obedience
Acts 20:28 Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood. We need to obey Him over anyone else in this world. Peter and the apostles obeying God over man are great examples of obedience in the Bible. The rulers of the day didn’t want him and the apostles preaching about Jesus.
Pray That Church Leaders Will Boldly Speak The Gospel
How do you preach the gospel boldly? Boldness is not constant or taken for granted. We must keep praying for it whenever we need it. Even the apostle Paul experienced this. That’s why he asked the Ephesians to pray that he “may declare [the gospel] boldly, as [he] ought to speak” (Ephesians 6:20).
