Sharing our burdens can be a hard task to do– but as Christians, it is important. Many of us would rather fight our battles alone than to ask others to help us get through the highs and lows. Whether it be because we don’t want to put the weight of our struggles on their shoulders or a lack of trust, we consciously choose to withhold asking for guidance and prayer. However, God calls us to get uncomfortable and share our burdens.
God Created Us to Need Other People in Our Lives
Genesis 2:18 says, “it is not good that the man should be alone.” When God created Adam, he proceeded to give him a partner [Eve]. God has created the people in our lives and placed them intentionally. Each of us were designed to need Him but to also need others. When we withhold our burdens from the people God has put into our lives, we are refuting the Word in which we live by.
Carrying Our Burdens Alone is Often a Sign of Idolatry in Our Lives
While the Bible provides us with encouragement to handle our burdens, it declares self-dependence as sinful. Idolatry of the self insinuates that we do not need God to help us navigate through life’s rough waters. However, we know that this is not true. A strong faith rooted in Christ is the one thing that will help us handle our burdens.
Handling Burdens Alone Does Not Suit What We are Called to Do in the Bible
Throughout the Bible, there are several passages that make reference to the importance of “one another.” Galatians 6:2 tells us in our pursuit to fulfill the laws of Christ, we should carry each other’s burdens. Romans 12:10 calls us to “love one another deeply.” James 5:16 reminds us to “confess your sins to one another and pray for one another.” Carrying our burdens alone does not fulfill the “one another” living that is described in several passages throughout the Bible.
God Created His People Full of Love with the Desire to Help One Another
We should allow others to strengthen us. When we carry our burdens alone, we fail to allow others to bless the ones they love. Simultaneously, we deprive ourselves of God-given strength. You will find a new level of “free” when you let other’s love you.
When We Seek the Help of Others, Our Burdens Grow Lighter
This probably comes to you as no surprise. Think about a time when you tried to move something heavy and realized you couldn’t do it alone. So you employed the help of another person to get the job done. Instantly, the weight became lighter. As with physical loads, the weight of our burdens will become lighter when we reach out to others for help.If you have a burden that is becoming too much to carry on your own, we’d love to pray for you.
